Hi, everyone~
Well sound the chimes in the City Hall tower. I am announcing my first official PICK OF THE WEEK! Please check out the songs at TinyTuneTown by SYLVIA CHAVE. You can either enter her name in the search engine or find all the songs she has written on the master list at the bottom of the home page categories. Sylvia has come up with a sound so joyful that I can barely stop from dancing while writing this column.
The songs are from Sylvia's album called Renji Penji and here are some thoughts on the album and children's music from Sylvia herself:
Renji Penji was my debut CD. I wanted to put out a CD that represented the fun I have when I sing in concert. I wanted all the material to be original and grab kids' attention as well as be something parents wanted to listen to over and over and over again. My views on children's music....hmmm. While I know that music is an amazing way to teach a multitude of things to children, I have tried hard not to follow that path. I want every child to love to sing out loud and proud and never fear that they can't sing well enough. To me there is no such thing as not being able to sing 'well enough'. Music is a pure joy that everyone should have in their lives daily, hourly.....moment to moment. I want everyone to sing!
If I have made a contribution to children's music I would like it to be that I have encouraged children to just be silly and have fun with an adult. That way they can see how you can actually keep all those childlike qualities as you grow older. We just get too darn serious as we grow older and I am doing my part to stay silly and keep having fun!
